Geomagnetic storm possible on Sunday

The Space Weather Prediction Center says that a G2-class geomagnetic storm is possible on Sunday when a coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field.

There was a flare from the sun on April 22.

Satellite systems may experience significant charging resulting in increased risk to satellite systems. Weak power grid fluctuations can occur.

As of this morning, geomagnetic activity is unsettled in the Polar and Sub-auroral regions and active in the Auroral region of Canada.

Over the next 24 hours, there are expected to be unsettled intervals across all three regions with unsettled conditions persisting in the Sub-auroral region.

Aurora may be visible at lower latitudes in Canada.

A coronal mass ejection is a significant release of plasma and accompanying magnetic field from the solar corona.
