Mars rover captures solar eclipse

NASA/JPL-Caltech/ASU/MSSS/SSI

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover has captured a solar eclipse, unlike anything we've seen before.

Using an onboard camera, the rover captured a shot of Phobos, one of Mars’ two moons, eclipsing the Sun.

While this is not the first time a rover has observed Phobos crossing in front of the Sun, it is the highest frame-rate observation ever taken from the Martian surface.

The Mars 2020 Perseverance mission is part of NASA’s Moon to Mars exploration approach, which includes missions to the Moon that will help prepare for human exploration of Mars.
