Temperature Surpasses 50 in Baghdad

The Middle East continues to swelter under extreme heat.

Several temperature records have been broken.

Baghdad, Iraq hit 50.6°C on Monday. On Tuesday the mercury hit 51.7°C. The temperature on Tuesday broke the previous all-time record of 51.2°C in the City. The temperature hit 51°C on Wednesday. It didn't break a record but was still hot.

The Middle East is seeing temperatures in the upper forties or low fifties.

Baghdad is the capital of Iraq and the third-largest city in the Arab world after Riyadh and Cairo. Located along the Tigris River, the city was founded in the 8th century.
