What is Capelin Weather?

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

Every year in eastern Newfoundland there is a period of the year, typically in June, known as Capelin Weather.

Capelin Weather is a period of time when the weather is typically foggy and rainy with drizzle and cool temperatures.

Summer typically doesn't arrive until Capelin Weather passes.

The weather pattern coincides with the annual capelin roll when capelin rolls onto beaches in the area.

They come to the beaches every year to spawn.
