6.8 earthquake strikes off Chilean coast


A powerful earthquake measuring a magnitude of 6.8 shook the coast of Chile on Sunday.


In the capital, Santiago, buildings could be seen swaying.


There were no injuries or damage.


The earthquake happened at 10:57 am local time at a depth of 9 kilometers.


There was no tsunami threat.


The USGS initially calculated the magnitude at 7.2.
