950 people dead after earthquake in Afghanistan


Officials say that 950 people are dead after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit the Khōst region of Afghanistan.


There have also been more than 600 injured.


The death toll is expected to rise.


The earthquake occurred at 1:24 am local time and was centred 46 km southwest of Khōst at a depth of 50 km.


The area where the earthquake occurred is a mountainous region near the Pakistan border.
