Development in the Gulf of Mexico Possible

Updated: Jul 8, 2019

We could see a tropical storm form, but right now it is in an unusual place.

A trough of low pressure over western Kentucky, Tennessee, and northern Mississippi is forecast to move southward toward the northeastern Gulf of Mexico where a low-pressure area could form in a few days.

Some gradual development of this system is then possible while it meanders near the northern Gulf Coast through the middle of next week.

The next named storm will be Barry.

CORRECTION: The previous version of this story said that development is possible in the Caribbean, it has been updated to the Gulf of Mexico.
