Earthquake in the eastern Pacific Ocean


There was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday evening at 8:53 pm local time in the eastern Pacific Ocean.


The earthquake was centred 1190.7 km west-southwest of Big Sur, California at a depth of 10 km.


There was no tsunami threat from the earthquake.


The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a statement on the earthquake. The National Weather Service in San Francisco said in a Tweet, "following official National Tsunami Warning Center procedures, this quake was considered too small and too far away from the coast to issue a tsunami product.


Additionally, sea level data collected on the closest buoy indicated that there was no vertical uplift in the water column.
