Election 2019: Where The Parties Stand on the Environment
The environment has become one of the most important issues of this election. With that in mind, here is where Canada's major political parties stand on climate change.
Liberal Party
Ban some single-use plastics by 2021. Protect Canada's land and ocean habitats. Plant two billion trees over 10 years. Create the Canada Water Agency, focused on water infrastructure and security.
Conservative Party
They want to take the fight against climate change global and incentivize industry to develop emissions-reducing technology that can be shared with the world’s highest-emitting countries.
NDP Party
Ban some single-use plastics by 2022 and make companies responsible for their product’s lifecycle. Protect 30 percent of our natural land, freshwater, and oceans this includes increasing reforestation and creating a national freshwater strategy.
Green Party
Protect at least 30 percent of Canada’s natural land, freshwater, and oceans. Ban all neonicotinoid pesticides and some single-use plastics by 2022. Develop a forest strategy and a water strategy. Stop solid waste exports.
Bloc Québécois
Respect Quebec’s authority on all environmental issues and opposes pipelines. It also wants to eliminate neonicotinoid pesticides.
People's Party
Withdraw from the Paris Accord and abandon greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. Stop sending money to developing countries to help them reduce their emissions. Abolish the carbon tax. Abolish subsidies for green technology.
