M5.7 Earthquake Felt near Salt Lake City, Utah


A strong earthquake hit Salt Lake City on Wednesday morning.


The earthquake knocked out power to almost 73,000 customers.


At 7:09 am MTC a large earthquake struck about 24 kilometres west of Salt Lake City.


Some damage was reported and several buildings were evacuated.


Several aftershocks were recorded and the USGS says that over the next week there is a 6 % chance of one or more aftershocks that are larger than magnitude 5.7.
