Orkin releases list of top bugs to watch for this summer

It has been a mild winter across Canada as a whole and the unusually warm winter weather enabled many insects to endure, resulting in a larger population poised to thrive this summer.

Orkin Canada’s Dr. Alice Sinia has provided her list of the top pests expected to trend in the summer of 2024, reminding Canadians to stay vigilant for:

• Bed Bugs

• European Firebugs

• Earwigs

• Tuxedo Bugs & Elm Seed Bugs

• Ticks

• European Fire Ants

• Red Legged Ham Beetles

• Midges

• Wasps

• Lady Bugs
  

“Homeowners and the public in general really have to understand that this climate change is affecting the behaviour or dispersed activity,” Dr. Sinia said.

She reminds Canadians that it is important to take precautions as insects are sticking around even as seasons change, and homeowners should consider treatments to help keep pests under control.
