Schools Close in the Maritimes, Freezing Rain Heading toward Newfoundland
Morning Update:
Precipitation has changed to rain in Halifax. Freezing rain warnings remain in effect in western sections. Freezing rain across PEI will change to rain from west to east this morning to this afternoon.
Snowfall and freezing rain warnings remain in effect across New Brunswick. Northern, central and western New Brunswick could see 20 to 30 cm of snow by tonight. Southern New Brunswick will see freezing rain this morning.
Precipitation will move into Newfoundland this afternoon. Freezing rain is likely across central and western Newfoundland. Rain is likely on the Avalon. The Northern Peninsula will see freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow. Strong winds are also expected. 15 to 20 cm of snow is expected across southeastern Labrador.
Some schools in Newfoundland are closing this afternoon.
There are several school closures across the Maritimes this morning.
In Nova Scotia Digby County schools are closed, Annapolis Valley all schools are closed, South Shore all schools are closed. There is a two-hour delay in the Musquodoboit Rural High Family of Schools. Classes are cancelled at Pleasant Bay School and the Cape Breton Highlands.
In New Brunswick, all Anglophone and Francophone South School District are closed.
On Prince Edward Island all Public Schools and French Language schools are closed.
