26 People Dead After Flooding in Madagascar


So far 26 people have died and 20 people are reported missing after flooding in Madagascar.


Boats and helicopters were dispatched to the flooded areas to assist those stranded. The military has been called in to help.


About 280 mm of rain has been recorded.


Up to 11 inches of rain have fallen in some areas. As a result of the heavy rain, several areas have become isolated.


Several homes were flooded in some northern sections of the country.


Officials say that water purifiers, grain, medicine, and rice are being delivered to the hardest-hit areas.


The flooding has hit an area that provides a great quantity of rice to the country.


Madagascar has been hit by a series of tropical disturbances over the last week or so. More rain is expected next week.
