A strong earthquake in Indonesia has resulted in the death of at least 47 people. Several other people are unaccounted for.

The earthquake was a magnitude 7.7. It was located 68.2 km north-northwest of Ende, Indonesia and happened at 5:58 a.m. local time Saturday. It was at a depth of 10 km.

There have been dozens of aftershocks, including a 6.1 magnitude aftershock 58.9 km north of Ende, Indonesia and a 6.9 magnitude aftershock 7.3 km north-northwest of Pematangsiantar, Indonesia.

There was briefly a tsunami warning in place. Thousands of people fled their homes. The extent of the damage remains unknown.
