5 Dead, Tornado hits Nashville



A tornado ripped through Tennessee overnight hitting Nashville.


So far five people have been confirmed dead. Three died in Putnam County and two in Nashville. Several people are also critically injured.


At least 40 structures also collapsed.

The National Weather Service warned of the tornado located near Nashville at 12:38 a.m. CST.


At least 50,100 customers lost power across the state. Some substations have been damaged.


Schools will be closed in the Metro Nashville Public System today. Schools in Wilson County will be closed for the remainder of the week.


The John C. Tune Airport in West Nashville also sustained significant damage.

Voting is also expected to be ongoing today. Polling sites at school facilities will be open unless otherwise noted.
