6.0 Magnitude Earthquake in Chile


There was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake on Monday afternoon in Chile.


The earthquake was centred 73.6 km north-northeast of Calama, Chile.


It was at a depth of 114 km.


There were no reports of any landslides or liquefaction taking place.


Reports indicate that the earthquake was also felt in Bolivia.


Chile is located within The Ring of Fire.


The Ring of Fire is a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.


In a large 40,000 km horseshoe shape, it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts and plate movements. It has 452 volcanoes.
