A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck 12 kilometers southwest of Searles Valley, California.


The earthquake was at a depth of 8 kilometers.


The 6.4 magnitude earthquake is the largest in about 20 years to hit the state.


There have already been 180 smaller aftershocks.


The earthquake took place in a very isolated area.
