Alberta Continues Storm Cleanup #ABstorm



Parts of southern Alberta, including the City of Calgary, are still cleaning up after a strong weather system pushed through the area on Saturday evening.


The low delivered severe thunderstorms to several areas of the province.


There have been countless reports of flooding, power outages, very large hail, and several possible tornadoes.


There were reports of three tornadoes. The first was spotted at 7:00 pm MDT southeast of Calgary, there was another report of a tornado near McNab around 7:30 pm MDT, and near Chin Lakes/Barnwell/Taber around 8 pm MDT.


Environment Canada says that there is insufficient evidence to confirm that any of these tornadoes have touched down but are looking for pictures of the suspected tornadoes or damage they may have caused.


Several areas also received large hail.

  • Duchess: 100 mm - Grapefruit

  • NE Calgary: 54 to 61 mm - Bigger than hen egg to tennis ball

  • Calgary: 21 to 24 mm - Widespread nickel to quarter

  • Linden: 50 mm - Hen egg

  • Barnwell: 45 mm - Golf ball

  • Elnora: 45 mm - Golf ball

  • Balzac: 38 mm - Walnut/ping pong

  • Huxley: 38 mm - Walnut/ping pong

  • Milo: 38 mm - Walnut/ping pong

  • Hanna: 26 mm - Loonie

  • Cochrane: 21 to 24 mm - Nickel to quarter

  • Didsbury: 21 to 24 mm - Nickel to quarter

  • Enchant: 21 mm - Nickel


Heavy rain fell in several areas causing flooding:

  • Calgary Intl: 50 mm

  • Rocky Mountain House Auto: 49.7 mm

  • Hawk Hills: 48.1 mm

  • Edson Climate: 45.1 mm

  • Edson: 44 mm

  • Three Hills: 31.7 mm

  • Hendrickson Creek: 29.6 mm

  • High Prairie AGDM: 27

  • Carrot Creek AGCM: 26.8
