At least 50 dead in Kentucky as tornadoes rip across several States

Tornadoes ripped across several U.S. states overnight. The worst-hit state was Kentucky when at least 50 people are feared dead.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said that 181 National Guard troops have been deployed. One tornado was on the ground for more than 300 km.

60,000 people in Kentucky were left without power.

An Amazon warehouse was hit in Illinois and two nursing homes also sustained damage from tornadoes. Monette Manor collapsed with everyone trapped inside.

It wasn't only Kentucky, damage was also reported in Tennessee and Missouri.

The Storm Prediction Center received seven reports of tornadoes and there were 44 reports of strong wind gusts.

Severe thunderstorms are possible once again today from the south-central Appalachians to the northern Gulf States. The main threats are damaging wind gusts and tornadoes. This afternoon and evening storms are possible across the Mid Atlantic.
