Atlantic Canada Storm Update and Closures


There are several weather alerts in effect across Atlantic Canada and southern and eastern Quebec as a large area of low pressure moves through.

Snow will change to rain across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and eastern New Brunswick this afternoon and evening. Snow in western New Brunswick may transition to ice pellets or freezing rain. Winds will be quite strong.


Snow is expected to move across Newfoundland tonight quickly changing to ice pellets and freezing rain and then to rain for most areas. Winds will be quite strong.


Snow will move into Labrador around noon tomorrow.


The majority of schools in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick are closed for the day.


Nova Scotia Power has activated its Emergency Operations Centre to provide centralized coordination for outage restoration.


Marine Atlantic has made changes to its schedule. The Port aux Basques to North Sydney crossing scheduled for 11:45 am this morning is now scheduled this evening at 11:45 pm.


The North Sydney to Port aux Basques crossing scheduled for 12:30 is now scheduled to depart at 11:15 pm.


Due to impending weather conditions, crossings scheduled for this evening may be cancelled.
