Canada issues tree planting update

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Tim Hodgson announced that Canada's 2 Billion Trees program has agreements to plant nearly one billion trees since the program’s launch in 2021.

As of June of this year, Canada has signed or is negotiating tree-planting agreements with 11 provinces and territories, 58 Indigenous partners, 30 municipalities and 88 non-governmental organizations.

Over 228 million trees have already been planted.

By 2030, the Government of Canada plans to create at least 10 new national parks and marine conservation areas and 15 new urban parks. It's part of a goal of protecting 30 percent of land and waters.
