Canada to enhance emissions reduction target

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will enhance the emissions reduction target under the Paris Agreement.

Trudeau made the announcement during a Leaders Summit on Climate on Thursday.

Canada will aim to reduce emissions by 40 to 45 percent below 2005 levels, by 2030.

As a signatory to the Paris Agreement, Canada’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) reflects its highest possible ambition in light of its current national circumstances.

From 2015 to 2019, the Government of Canada invested roughly $60 billion toward climate action and clean growth.

As of February 2021, 194 states and the European Union have signed the Agreement.
