Downburst strikes Prince Edward Island

On Friday, a thunderstorm impacted the Summerside area of Prince Edward Island.


Based on information gathered by Environment and Climate Change Canada in collaboration with the Northern Tornadoes Project, the storm produced a strong downburst with an EF-0 rating, with localized wind gusts possibly exceeding 100 km/h.


There were several reports of trees and property damage.


The Summerside airport had a peak of 63 km/h just before 5:30 PM ADT, Friday, August 28th. Total rainfall of 40 to 60 mm was reported with this thunderstorm and subsequent thunderstorms that affected the area that evening.
