A 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred 583.4 km southwest of Lajes das Flores, Portugal at a depth of 10 kilometres.
It occurred along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is the site of volcanic activity and earthquakes.
This earthquake was not strong enough to generate a tsunami. Tsunamis are typically generated when earthquakes are stronger than 7.5.
