Starting today, Environment and Climate Change Canada has introduced a new method to issue tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings.
Moving forward, when a tornado warning or severe thunderstorm warning is issued, meteorologists will draw polygons around areas threatened by severe weather rather than issuing warnings across an entire weather zone.
This will reduce the number of people receiving warnings when they are outside the immediate threat area.
Other alerts will not be changed.
