Flooding and potential landslide risks continue to affect the Village of Zeballos in British Columbia, with evacuation orders, alerts and road closures in effect.

In an update issued Friday, November 6, the Village of Zeballos and Strathcona Regional District (SRD) say there have been no significant changes in conditions following overnight evacuations and the declaration of a State of Local Emergency.

Public Works crews will continue conducting regular checks of the affected areas as conditions allow. Both emergency operations centres will remain on standby overnight.

Geotechnical assessment pending

A geotechnical assessment is still required to determine whether there is a risk of further landslides and when the affected area may be safe to access.

The full extent of potential property damage is also unknown because evacuations occurred overnight and access remains restricted. Officials say there have been no confirmed reports of damage to residential properties at this time.

Evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect

The following emergency measures remain in place:

  • Evacuation Order: Specified properties at 101–118 Maquinna Avenue and 202–216 Pandora Crescent. Residents must remain evacuated until the order is officially lifted.

  • Evacuation Alert: Properties at 402, 404 and 406 Ferris Road. Residents should be prepared to leave on short notice.

  • Shelter in Place: Residents in the Pandora, Gold Valley and Reno Roads area are encouraged to remain in their homes unless instructed otherwise by emergency officials.

  • Road Closure: Maquinna Avenue remains closed between 101 and 118 Maquinna Avenue, near Pandora Crescent.

  • Residents are being asked to respect all road closures and avoid the affected areas.

Officials say further assessments will take place when conditions are safe.
