Evacuations in Norway due to severe flooding
Residents in southern and eastern Norway are being evacuated after days of heavy rain that has resulted in flooding. The Braskereidfoss power dam partially collapsed and there have been reports of rivers bursting their banks and landslides.
Swollen rivers swept away structures and flooded some towns.
Trine Heggdal, a Hydrologist in Norway's Directorate of Water Resources and Energy said that such high rainfall amounts have not been recorded over eastern Norway before.
Some areas have seen nearly 150 millimetres of rain.
Rescue services are asking residents to clean up drains so that surface water can drain. Residents should also not keep things in the basement that could be destroyed by flooding.
