Hawaii hit with heavy rains, resulting in widespread flooding

It will be a wet weekend across Hawaii as the state contends with heavy rain that has caused flooding and hazardous travel conditions.

Saturday and Sunday, Honolulu will receive nearly 80 mm of rain, Lahaina should see about 25 mm, Hilo is expecting nearly 40 mm, and Lihue will see 10 mm.

The National Weather Service warned of significant and life-threatening flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas.

Local officials report that several people had to be rescued from floodwaters. There are multiple road closures and landslides in steep terrain.
