Heatwave Breaks Record in Siberia


A heatwave settled in over Siberia over the weekend.


Verkhoyansk hit 38°C on Saturday. The town is located within the Arctic Circle.


The area has experienced mostly above normal temperatures so far this year.


Due to the warmer temperatures, the area has been experiencing large wildfires that continue to grow in size.


The town actually holds the world record for the biggest temperature range. Until this weekend, the lowest temperature recorded there was -68°C and the highest was 37.2°C.


Verkhoyansk has a population of 1,311.
