Heavy Rain & Gusty Wind Expected in NS & NL



The remnants of Laura will merge with a secondary low-pressure system and bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland beginning on Saturday night in Nova Scotia and Sunday into Monday in Newfoundland.


Winds along the south and east coast of Newfoundland may gust to 80 km/h at times on Sunday.


There is also the potential for some non-severe thunderstorms across western and southern Newfoundland.


Rainfall amounts will vary quite considerably across Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. The heaviest rain will fall over the Avalon Peninsula, where southern sections could get nearly 60 mm of rain.


There is a special weather statement in effect for the entire province of Nova Scotia and in Newfoundland, a special weather statement is in effect for Avalon Peninsula North, Avalon Peninsula Southeast, Avalon Peninsula Southwest, Burin Peninsula, Connaigre and St. John's and vicinity.
