Heavy rain and strong winds to impact Halloween plans in Atlantic Canada

An area of low pressure currently located over over the U.S. Midwest will bring rain to Atlantic Canada on Halloween.


Across New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia, rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm are expected on Friday. Winds will also gust to 70 km/h across New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Gusts from 70 to 110 km/h are possible over Nova Scotia.


The low will make it to Newfoundland on Friday night. At the same time, the remnants of Hurricane Melissa will likely have an impact of some kind on the Avalon Peninsula.


Rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm is expected for some areas. Winds will gusts from 70 to 100 km/h.


Secure outdoor items such as Halloween decorations and garbage bins.


Marine Atlantic is currently monitoring the track of Hurricane Melissa and is anticipating impacts to its schedule beginning Friday, October 31.
