Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding in Parts of Quebec

Heavy rainfall brought localized flooding to parts of southern and eastern Quebec on Monday, with some communities receiving up to 85 millimetres of rain, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The heaviest rainfall fell Monday in the Saint-Jérôme area of the Laurentians, where between 60 and 85 millimetres were recorded. Environment and Climate Change Canada said the rainfall caused localized flooding and sewer backups.

Additional rainfall continued across southern Quebec on Tuesday and was expected to persist into Wednesday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada reported the following rainfall totals recorded through Tuesday morning:

• Laurentians (Saint-Jérôme area): 60 to 85 mm

• Abitibi (Amos area): 40 to 75 mm

• Témiscamingue: 30 to 50 mm

• Montmagny: 30 to 50 mm

• Lanaudière: 20 to 30 mm
