Heavy snow and strong winds to impact eastern Newfoundland Friday

A low pressure system will move east of the Avalon Peninsula on Friday, bringing heavy snow and strong winds to the Avalon, Burin, Bonavista, and Clarenville.

The snow will begin on Friday morning and continue until Saturday morning.

Snow will gradually increase in intensity on Friday afternoon. Additionally, strong winds will cause reduced visibility and blowing snow on Friday afternoon and Friday night.

The heaviest snow will fall across the Avalon where 20 to 30 cm of snow is expected. The Burin through Bonavista and Clarenville will receive about 15 to 25 cm. Lesser amounts are expected elsewhere across Newfoundland.

Winds on the Avalon Peninsula will gust from 50 to 70 km/h Friday night into Saturday morning.
