Heavy Snow Expected in Western Alberta



Snow is expected across western Alberta over the weekend. The heaviest snow is expected to fall over the Highway 93 area.


There are winter storm and wind warnings in effect for southwestern Alberta.


Winter storm warnings are in effect for

  • Highway 93 - Jasper to Saskatchewan River Crossing

  • Highway 93 - Lake Louise to Saskatchewan River Crossing

  • Highway 93 - Jasper to Saskatchewan River Crossing

By Sunday evening total snowfall of 30 to 50 cm is possible. This heavy snow combined with gusty winds will result in reduced visibility and blowing snow. Travel will be dangerous in these areas.

There is a wind warning for

  • Cardston - Fort Macleod - Magrath

  • Crowsnest Pass - Pincher Creek - Waterton Lakes Nat. Park

  • Kananaskis - Canmore

  • Nordegg - Forestry Trunk Road Highway 734

  • Okotoks - High River - Claresholm

Strong winds are expected to develop this morning, with gusts up to 90 km/h expected. The winds will weaken by Sunday morning.
