How much snow will eastern Newfoundland see?

An area of low pressure will move across eastern Newfoundland today. Precipitation will begin this morning.


Rain will spread across the Avalon, Burin, and Bonavista Peninsula this afternoon. Rain will become mixed with and eventually change to snow.


Generally, on the Avalon Peninsula, snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected. More accumulation is expected over higher elevation.


Snowfall amounts will range from 5 to 25 cm on the Burin Peninsula through Clarenville to Bonavista.


Winds will not be a major concern with this system with gusts to 60 km/h possible which will result in some blowing snow.


Ahead of the storm, there are some school closures on the Avalon Peninsula.


The snow should come to an end by late this evening.
