Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, bringing life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds, heavy rainfall and severe weather to parts of the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama.

The storm is tracking northward inland and is rapidly losing its tropical characteristics, but dangerous conditions persist along the coast.

Bands of thunderstorms surrounding Isaias are expected to maintain the threat of significant flash flooding and tornadoes across south-central Alabama and the Florida Panhandle through the morning.

As Isaias transitions into an extratropical system over the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall and severe weather are expected to spread into the southeastern United States and the lower Mid-Atlantic.

The southern Appalachian region faces a particular risk of flash flooding, with landslides also possible.

By Sunday, the remnants of Isaias are expected to move rapidly toward the Mid-Atlantic and northeastern United States, where isolated flash flooding remains possible before the system moves away on Monday.
