January Astronomy Highlights


Here are the astronomy highlights for January.


The Quadrantids Meteor Shower peaks today. Across southern Canada and the United States, the maximum activity will come during bright morning twilight or daylight conditions.


From January 9 to 12, Mercury will climb past Jupiter and Saturn in the southwestern sky.


On the 16th The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45, will be visible. The Pleiades is an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars in the north-west of the constellation Taurus.


The moon will pass Mars and Uranus on January 20th.
