Man dead after avalanche near Corner Brook, NL


A 30-year-old man has died in an avalanche near Corner Brook, NL today.


The snowmobiler got swept up in an avalanche that occurred in a backcountry area known as “Charlie’s Bottom” on the west coast.


At the time there were several snowboarders and snowmobilers in the area.


Snowmobilers brought the injured man out of the area. He was then transported by ambulance to Western Memorial Regional Hospital, where he passed away.


The investigation is ongoing.


Earlier today the RCMP advised that an avalanche had taken place.


Police are asking the public to avoid the area.
