More Nasty Weather Impacting the Avalon

While most of Newfoundland is enjoying a decent weather day, the Avalon Peninsula is not so lucky. Depending on where you are on the Avalon today, you could end up with measurable snow or rain.

Over the Baccalieu Trail, rainfall will be minimal. Snow will be the dominant form of precipitation with about 10 centimetres expected.

Over the southern Avalon, rainfall amounts of 20 mm are expected.

Areas in the transition zone such as the St. John's metro area may end up seeing ice pellets and freezing rain. Gusty winds are also occurring.

Conditions will improve this evening.

It is also worth noting that there is a Wreckhouse wind warning in effect for Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity. Strong southeasterly winds with gusts to 120 km/h, with the potential to gust up to 130 km/h or more is expected on Wednesday evening.

Marine Atlantic is advising that there could be an impact on crossings tomorrow.
