A state of emergency remains in effect in the community of Small Point-Adam's Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove, NL, due to an out-of-control wildfire that started on Wednesday.
More than 20 structures have been impacted.
Residents were forced to evacuate areas of the community that has a population of just over 400. Evacuation is advised for Western Bay, south of River Loop Road.
Evacuation centres have been set up at Persalvic Elementary School in Victoria and the AYLA Building on Critches Road in Lower Island Cove. The Salem community centre is also open.
The Evacuation Centre at Persalvic has counsellors available on site for anyone who needs the service.
Newfoundland Power states that power remains off this morning in the areas of Adam’s Cove to Broad Cove due to the fire. Restoration efforts will continue once crews are given the go-ahead by Fire and Emergency Services to access.
There are other fires as well. Wildfire suppression crews are actioning the wildfire 1 km from Butterpot Park. The Badger and Fermeuse fires are under control.
The weather continues to be warm today, near 20 degrees, and wildfire season started early due to little snow over the winter.
