A multi-day heat event will be the dominant weather story across Canada over the next few days. Hot weather is expected to impact those in southern Manitoba, Ontario, and western Quebec.

In some form or another, the heat may continue through Saturday. It will be a Tuesday and Wednesday event for southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, By Thursday the heat will move into southern Ontario and southern Quebec and will linger in those areas until Saturday night.

Daytime high temperatures may reach or exceed 30 degrees with overnight lows only dipping to about 15 to 20 degrees. Humidex values in the daytime hours could reach the mid to high thirties.

The atmosphere will be very unstable over the next few days so there is a risk of thunderstorms, some of which may become severe.

Follow these five steps to protect yourself and your family in very hot weather:

  1. Prepare for the heat by monitoring local weather updates

  2. Pay close attention to how you - and those around you - feel

  3. Stay hydrated

  4. Stay cool

  5. Avoid exposure to extreme heat when outdoors
