NWS Changing Watch, Warning, & Advisory System

Watches and Warnings across the U.S. (Not current).

The National Weather Service is changing its Watch, Warning, and Advisory system.

For years now, the National Weather Service has used the Watch, Warning, and Advisory system to alert users of forecasted hazards.

The system has been highly effective in some ways.

Some are confused about how to interpret and distinguish among a large number of individual products such as a Wind Advisory, Flood Watch, Winter Storm Warning.

The NWS is considering reducing the number of products and to simplify the product text.
