Officials provide update on fires in central Newfoundland



There is some good news pertaining to the forest fires in Central Newfoundland.


Premier Furey said in an address this afternoon that 10 mm of rain fell before 8:00 am over the fire area and it is still raining.


The Bay d’Espoir Highway has reopened but conditions can change quickly.


At this time both fires remain out of control and the fire area has grown overnight to over 200 sq km.


Everyone that was intended to be evacuated from Central Health facilities has been completed.


There are two helicopters and air crews fighting the Paradise Lake fire and there are two helicopters, air crews, and ground crews fighting the Bay d’Espoir Highway fire.
