One Nelson police officer killed another injured in BC avalanche

One person has been killed and another has been critically injured in an avalanche near Kaslo, British Columbia.
The Nelson Police Board said that two Nelson police officers were struck by an avalanche near Kaslo while on snowmobiles.
At the time of the incident, the officers were off-duty.
There is a considerable risk of avalanches in the area according to Avalanche Canada.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement that said, "I’m incredibly saddened to hear about the death of a police officer near Kaslo, British Columbia yesterday. To their family and friends, Canadians are with you. And to the officer who was injured, we’re wishing you a fast and full recovery."
Kaslo is a village on the west shore of Kootenay Lake in the West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia.
