Over 1 million without power in Quebec after freezing rain event
There are over one million customers without electricity in Quebec after freezing rain hit the area on Wednesday.
Hydro-Québec is working to restore power. There are over 1,000 employees working on restoring power. The areas hit the hardest are Montréal, Montérégie, Outaouais, Laurentides, Laval, Lanaudière, Québec and Estrie.
Due to the number of outages, it is difficult to provide estimated restoration times.
Schools in the Montreal area have cancelled classes today. Travel is difficult as many roads have debris such as trees or wires down.
The forecast is much improved in Montréal for the next seven days.
