Palermo Sicily Hit By Severe Flooding


The City of Palermo, on the island of Sicily was flooded by severe thunderstorms on Wednesday.


Several people were believed to have been trapped in a flooded underpass. Two children were hospitalized for hypothermia.


About 80 mm of rain fell in just a few minutes. City streets were flooded with water about a metre high.


The flooding has been described as the more violent bout in rain in memory.


July only averages about 6.7 mm of rain for the whole month.


Palermo is the capital of the Italian island of Sicily.
