Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Issued Alert in Error
An investigation has been launched by the solicitor general of Ontario after an emergency alert was issued from the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station on Sunday.
Around 7:00 am on Sunday an emergency alert was sent out in error regarding an “incident” at the station.
There was no incident at the station nor was there any danger to the public or the environment.
The alert was sent during a routine exercise.
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station is located on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
It is one of the oldest nuclear power stations in the world and Canada's third-largest, producing about 15% of Ontario's power and employing 3,000 workers.
