Rideau Canal Skateway to open Saturday

On Saturday the Rideau Canal Skateway will open for the 55th season.

The National Capital Comission is putting the final touches on the ice, and a 3.6 km section of the Rideau Canal Skateway between Somerset and Bank. It will open at 8:00 a.m.

Beaver Tails will be open, rentals are available at Fifth Avenue, and rest areas will be open.

The winter started out mild but over the last week, it's been colder. Temperatures are expected to be cold over the next several days.

The Rideau Canal is 202 km long and links the Ottawa River at Ottawa with the Cataraqui River and Lake Ontario at Kingston, Ontario.
