September Astronomy Highlights


This month we can see Jupiter and Saturn in the eastern sky in the evening hours.


Saturn will be positioned to the left of the Moon on September 7th and to the right of the Moon on the 8th.


On the 10th, Jupiter will be left of the Moon. Also on September 10th is the full harvest moon. This is the full moon nearest to the autumnal equinox.


Mars will be to the left of the Moon on the 16th.


By the 26th, Jupiter will be the brightest of the year.

  • First Quarter September 3

  • Full Moon September 10

  • Last Quarter September 17

  • New Moon September 25
