Several planets visible in the night sky this month


The first month of 2024 begins with Jupiter high in the southeastern sky with Saturn in the southwestern sky.


Earth was closest to the sun on January 2nd at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.


On the 13th and 14th, the Moon will sit above Saturn.


Venus will be visible in the low eastern sky in the early morning as will Mars and Mercury on the 27th.


Moon Phases:

  • Last Quarter: January 3

  • New Moon: January 11

  • First Quarter: January 17

  • Full Moon: January 25
